One Lump or Two?

Welcome to the Coffee Cup Paradox blog! I’m so excited to start writing about some of the things that truly fascinate me. I’ve always been interested in the stuff that makes me question our reality and want to go chase ghosts off in Nevada somewhere. Ok, I won’t go that far— Nevada is one seriously haunted state, my frands! Don’t worry, it will definitely be the topic of one of my upcoming posts.
But, in all seriousness, with all of the ghost stories, urban legends, unsolved mysteries, anomalies, haunted locales, cryptids and crop circles out there, how could there not be more than what we see with the naked eye? After all, if you think about it, there are so many mysteries we’ve already uncovered; we know they exist around us but we can’t see or hear or feel them. For example, there are legions of microorganisms that we can only see under a microscope. You can’t see them just by looking at the bottom of your shoe, but mister, they’re there. Some things can only be seen, or can be seen differently, by using certain types of light — try shining a black light over tonic water or vitamins (or just google it, I won’t judge). Certain pitches of sound can only be heard by animals; they also seem to sense things we can’t.
So why is it so hard for people to consider that the reality we experience with our human senses isn’t all there is to it? Don’t worry, this quiz isn’t graded — it’s because most of us are content living with what we know to be the norm: what we’re comfortable with, and what we’ve always believed—even if the evidence to the contrary is right in front of us (think about the folk of yore that were convinced you’d fall off the earth if you took a long enough walk in one direction.)
There is a whole world of information, experiences and occurrences out there to investigate— to push the boundaries of what we consider normal or expect to be given truth. I can’t wait to start my mornings by exploring the supernatural, spooky, weird, or otherwise paradoxical with you and I hope you’re looking forward to it as much as I am. So, just one more question: do you take cream and sugar? ☕️ [d.t.]
